BUYER BEWARE!!!

The illegal practice of telephone system vendors selling equipment as “new” (sometimes, but not always at below market price) when the equipment is actually “used” has recently stung several Metroplex companies.  Area businesses need to be aware of this practice in order to avoid this scam.  Here are just a few actual examples of local companies spending thousands of dollars on equipment presented to them as new and expecting them to perform as new, and then having to spend countless hours and considerably more money to actually get what they had already bought.

ACTUAL RECENT CASES
IN THE DFW METROPLEX

A North Dallas medical facility recently purchased a “new” digital telephone system, but experienced chronic problems for months.  After receiving no relief from the installing vendor, they contacted National Telesystems for assistance.  The system was found to be assembled from parts as much as seven years old, leaving the company stuck with thousands of dollars of problem equipment that was long out of warranty.  To further complicate the matter, the system was purchased from a vendor not authorized by the manufacturer, limiting the company’s recourse.

A prominent Dallas company upgrading to a new powerful voicemail system found out that the “new” telephone system purchased just two years earlier was actually a six year old similar looking model, and the entire cabinet with software had to be completely replaced before they could upgrade to the new voicemail system.

An Irving high-tech business purchased an expensive T-1 interface card, but they did not realize just how expensive until they spent four days after its installation unable to make or receive but a few calls.  Finally, after the company purchased a new T-1 card from National Telesystems to replace the unit they had bought and paid for the previous week, the system operated as expected.  It turned out the original card was an old manufacturer test unit that was never even released on the open market.

The cost of replacing the misrepresented equipment is only a fraction of the cost to the companies victimized by this fraud.  They must add the cost of lost man-hours, dropped customer calls, employee frustration, and curtailed productivity – these expenses are incalculable when determining the true expense of these actions.

DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!

A few guidelines on the next page can possibly save you thousands in time and money.

1) Confirm that the vendor you are considering is an Authorized Dealer for the equipment you are purchasing. In most cases, only an Authorized Dealer can buy direct from the manufacturers – unauthorized dealers get their equipment from whatever sources they can uncover

2) Check the length of time the vendor has been in business at their current location and under the same name.  Unscrupulous vendors often change names and locations to shed themselves of obligations, including warranties their customers thought they had.

3) Remember – these companies are often very accomplished in their deception – be wary and don’t be shy about asking tough questions.

Frauds such as these are a “black-eye” to the entire industry.  We at National Telesystems are proud of our reputation, and in response to these illegal practices, we provide our “New Product Guarantee”:

NEW PRODUCT GUARANTEE

National Telesystems, Inc. guarantees that all equipment sold by NTI as “new” is truly factory-new equipment.  As an Authorized Dealer, the parts warranty for this equipment will be fully backed by both the manufacturer and National Telesystems, Inc.  All parts shall be labeled with unique serial numbers, which can be certified by distribution date, by request through the manufacturer.
